Emergency Care From Our Veterinarian in Portland
At Peninsula Dog & Cat Clinic, our veterinarian in Portland provides a wide range of services to help your pet lead a healthy and happy life. In addition to our comprehensive veterinary care services, we also offer emergency care when your pet needs it most. Specifically, our emergency veterinarian and staff are available six days a week, with referrals to a nearby 24-hour facility available in severe circumstances.
What Qualifies as a Pet Emergency?
Often times, pet owners have a hard time distinguishing between an "urgent" medical situation and an outright emergency. We believe that it's always best to air on the side of caution; if you have any reason to believe that your pet's life may be at-risk, bring your pet in for emergency treatment. Definite pet medical emergencies include any situation where your pet isn't breathing and you cannot feel a heartbeat, in addition to:
- pet seizures
- vomiting and/or diarrhea for more than 24 hours
- choking/difficulty breathing
- severe trauma (car accident, dog/cat fight, etc.)
Furthermore, if you believe your pet may have ingested something toxic, then you should also treat this as a medical emergency, even if your pet is not showing any obvious symptoms right away.
When to Contact Our Emergency Veterinary Clinic
If your pet is experiencing any of the above medical situations, please do not wait any longer to seek help from our emergency veterinary clinic. In a medical emergency, every second counts, and having your pet seen and treated by our experienced veterinary staff will be your his or her best chance at a successful recovery. We strongly recommend that you keep our phone number, (503) 285-7661, saved in your phone or in another easily accessible location so that it's always on-hand if you need it. Our office is open Monday through Saturdays, and even if we're not in the office to see your pet, we can refer you to a reputable emergency vet outside of our business hours.
