Pet Vaccinations Important for Veterinary Wellness Care
Dog and Cat Wellness Programs Include Core Vaccinations
Our Portland veterinarian Dr. Kenneth DeRemer recommends all dogs and cats receive core vaccinations that protect against deadly disease. These illnesses, including rabies, distemper and parvo, are easily spread between animals. In the case of parvo, as well as canine leptospirosis, these illnesses can also be spread to humans. Keeping your dogs and cats up to date on core vaccinations will protect your pet’s health, as well as the health of your family members.
As part of our wellness programs, we offer the following feline vaccinations: the FVRCP combined shot protecting against feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus infection and panleukopenia (feline distemper); FIV (feline immune deficiency virus); FeLV (feline leukemia virus); and rabies. All cats should receive the core FVRCP shot and rabies vaccination. Depending on your cat’s lifestyle, our small animal vet may recommend vaccination against FIV and FeLV.
Some pet owners mistakenly believe that routine pet vaccinations are not only unnecessary, but may also jeopardize a pet’s health. In fact, this could not be further from the truth. Regular pet vaccinations are essential to pet wellness care, even for indoor cats. Our small animal vet will create a custom vaccination schedule tailored to your pet’s individual needs. While we do not believe in unnecessary or excessive vaccination, a conservative pet immunization program consistently delivers live-saving benefits.
Our cat and dog wellness programs are committed to helping your pets live a healthy and active life. If you have any questions about pet vaccinations, our Portland veterinarian Dr. DeRemer can provide with the answers that will be right for your pet’s protection. Contact us today!
