Pet Surgery & Emergency Vet Services
Here at Peninsula Dog & Cat Clinic in Portland, we offer a wide range of surgical services to our clients. As a small animal vet, we treat dogs, cats, rabbits, pocket pets & chickens. We also work closely with the Multnomah County Animal Clinic and give a free exam to anyone who adopts an animal from this shelter. (Certificate from county required)
Spay and Neuter Services Offered
Spaying and neutering your pet is one of the most important surgeries performed here at the Peninsula veterinary hospital. Neutering is used to describe the castration of a male while spaying (ovariohysterectomy) of a female animal involves removing the animal's ovaries, tubes and uterus. However, the terms spay and neuter are commonly interchanged. Our small animal vet safely performs spay and neuter surgeries many times throughout the year. This is a safe and uncomplicated surgery that improves the health and behavior of your pet and helps to prevent pet overpopulation.
Our Portland Veterinarian provides general pet surgery, emergency surgery, orthopedic surgery and dental surgery to our patients. We use the most advanced surgical and sterilization techniques for dog surgery and cat surgery. In many ways our dog surgery here at the veterinary hospital is similar to human surgery used at a regular hospital. We use radio-graphic and laboratory equipment to take x-rays to help diagnose medical issues. During surgery, our Portland veterinarian will monitor your pet's blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen levels.
We also perform full blood testing before any pet surgery to ensure your pet is healthy enough to handle anesthesia. Pain medications will be administered before, during and after pet surgery so that your pet remains as comfortable as possible. Our veterinarian and certified veterinary technician will also supervise your pet's postoperative care. When it is time to go home we will give you detailed instructions about how to take care of your pet after surgery.
Emergency Vet Care
We have an emergency vet and trained well veterinary staff at the clinic 6 days a week and we accept emergency cases. We can perform emergency surgery, however pets in severe conditions may be referred nearby to a 24 hour emergency facility. If you have a pet emergency please call and come in right away. In a critical care situation every second counts. It is best to call before coming in so that we can advise you over the phone and prepare for your arrival at the hospital. Emergencies can include car accidents, snail bait poisoning, dog and cat fights, chocolate ingestion, cuts and sudden illness. During emergency situations our critical care team will help your pet, and if necessary may perform dog surgery or cat surgery to save your pet's life.
We also provide urgent care for non-life threatening situations. If you feel your pet needs to be seen right away please call so that we can do our best to "squeeze" you in around the scheduled appointments. Call us immediately at 503-419-4230 if you have an emergency or urgent care situation.
